Playoff thunder!!
The G.W. Eagles didn't play like an underdog in the first round of the Northwest Region Division 5 playoffs. They used a powerful second-half to shock the #3 seed Massaponax Panthers 42-26, winning their first playoff game in three years and advancing to the Regional Semifinals. In the first half, neither team could stop the other. The teams traded three touchdowns each, with the Eagles scoring two by ground and one by air. But an interception set up a late Panther touchdown, giving them a 26-21 halftime lead. But G.W. needed less than two minutes of second-half play to re-take the lead. It remained 29-26 G.W. most of the second half, until the Eagles pulled away with a touchdown with a little more than four minutes left. A late Akeem Smith score sealed the deal!
