Disappointing District Opener

Friday was the annual "Play for a Cure" game for breast cancer awareness

Not much went right for the G.W. Eagles in their 2011 Western Valley District opener at home against Patrick Henry.   The Patriots scored touchdowns on their first four first-half possessions to take a commanding 28-0 lead.   The Eagles only points of the game came on a second-quarter safety, where the Patrick Henry punter tracked down a bad snap and fell on the ball in the end zone.   Kyshawn Jones had an 85-yard kickoff return in the first half to set the Eagles up with a first-and-goal.  But the Eagles' offense, which mustered only 180 yards all night, could not take advantage.   The Eagles will try to rebound this Friday when they host William Fleming.
