No letdown!
It had all the makings of a dreaded "trap" game. The GW Eagles were coming off of a big win a week ago against the previouisly-unbeaten Magna Vista Warriors, taking back to the road against a 1-6 Franklin County team with nothing to lose. GW struggled a bit in the first quarter, but scored 55 unanswered points after that to shellac Franklin County, 62-7.
For the first time in six games, the Eagles did NOT score on their first possession. They had to wait until their second possession, and they made it count. But Franklin County answered with a score of their own to tie it up. But the Eagles (of GW) took the lead for good a few minutes later.
GW poured it on the second quarter, scoring three more touchdowns, including this nifty pass, giving them a 34-7 lead at the break. The second half was all GW as they tacked on four more touchdowns, including an impressive run-and-catch in the third quarter, and C.J. Graves' fourth score in the fourth period.
For the first time since 1996, the Eagles move to 8-0 with the win. Next up, Halloween night at Christopher Stadium to take on cross-town rivals from Tunstall! It's "Play for a Cure" night for breast cancer awareness. So, pink costumes everyone!!
