Nov. 6, 2015 --- G.W. 28   Magna Vista 21

Another Piedmont District title!

CJ Graves opens the scoring with touchdown #17!

The much-anticipated showdown between GW and Magna Vista lived up to the hype.  The Eagles parlayed some big plays to take a 28-7 lead early in the Second Half, then held on for dear life to post a 28-21 win, clinching the 2015 Piedmont District Championship, and securing a home game in the first-round of the playoffs.

The Eagles wasted no time in their opening drive, running three plays and scoring from 28 yards out only 53 seconds into the game!  Magna Vista tied it at the mid-way point of the first quarter, but GW re-took the lead when an unlikely source picked up a squib kick and rumbled 67 yards for a score!

On to the second quarter, where the Eagles took over on the Magna Vista 41-yard line, and used one play to take a two-score lead!  The two powerhouses went into the break with the Eagles up 21-7.

GW built up what felt like a comfortable lead when they picked off another Shaolin McGuire pass...this one resulting in another touchdown!

But playing like the champions they are, the Warriors crept back.  Their defense clamped down on the Eagles, forcing a series of three-and-outs.  Meantime, the Warriors offense slowly got untracked.  Jac Hairston capped off a 14-play, 85-yard drive late in the third to make it 28-14, entering the fourth.

In the final frame, the Warriors defense continued to hold the Eagles at bay, while their offense kept chipping away.  They popped a tired Eagles defense with a touchdown pass halfway through the fourth to pull to within a touchdown.

The Eagles offense continue to sputter.  The Warriors got the ball back with three minutes left on the clock---but a resilient Eagle defense picked McGuire off for a fourth time to give the offense the ball back with 1:43 to play.  But it wasn't over.  The Eagles had to punt with seconds left.  Magna Vista picked up a couple of first downs, then completed a short pass.  But the Eagle defense came up with their FIFTH turnover the ice the game, and the District!

Dyonte Fuller cashes in his pick-six card!
