Nov. 9, 2018 --- Pulaski Co. 17  G.W. 14

Tough way to end the season

It was a hard-nosed defensive battle where one team outgained the other by a mere three yards.  In the end a VERY long field goal was the difference as the Pulaski County Cougars came to Danville to knock off the GW Eagles 17-14.  The game was moved from J.T. Christopher Stadium to Averett University because of field conditions.

The Cougars struck first, embarking on a remarkable 13-play, 66-yard drive that included four consecutive third down conversions.  Their touchdown gave them a 7-0 lead.  Early in the second, the Cougars kicked a 46-yard field goal to stretch their lead to 10-0.  But the Eagles answered just before halftime to make it a 10-6 game at the break.

In the second half the Eagles came out strong.  They took the kickoff downfield and punctated the drive with a thrilling touchdown.  The two-point conversation gave GW a 14-10 lead.

The defenses took over from that point, but Pulaski County steadily improved their field position.  They scored with just over eight minutes left to take a 17-14 lead.

On the Eagles' final drive, they moved as close as the 25-yard line.  A fourth down pass into the end zone was incomplete, largely because the intended receiver was knocked over.

The Eagles end their 2018 eason with a solid 8-3 record.
