More growing pains

A young GW team showed remarkable improvement against a sold team in week two.  But after a spirited first half comeback, the Eagles wilted in the second half, losing 40-25 to the Amherst County Lancers.

Amherst County scored on their first play from scrimmage.  But the Eagles had an answer.

But the Lancers scored two more quick touchdowns and were threatening to pull away.  That's when the GW defense held the Lancers scoreless the rest of the first half.  Meantime, G.W.'s running game heated up.  Using field position given to them by two turnovers, they scored two short touchdowns to take a 22-20 lead into the half.

The Eagles failed to score on their opening drive in the second half, then the Lancers punched the ball in to take the lead for good.  For the second week in a row, G.W. got a field goal from Juan Rodriguez, but it wasn't enough.
