2022 Week 7

For the third season in a row, the GW Eagles completed a rare hat trick. Thanks to a re-scheduled game, the Eagles managed to win three games in eight days. They finished the sweep in front of a packed Senior Night crowd at Averett University, holding off the Halifax County Blue Comets 24-21.

The Comets scored on their first possession after an impressive drive. The Eagles answered just two plays later. The Eagles still trailed 7-6 until late in the first quarter. They turned a fourth-down conversion attempt into a go-ahead score.

Late in the second, the Eagles used their defense to put two points on the board. The offense sputtered, with three drives into Comet territory ending on fourth down. But the Eagles finally converted on their last play of the first half. They went into the break up 24-7.

The second half belonged to the Comets. They scored quickly on their first drive to make it 24-14. The Eagles offense continued to struggle while the defense kept the Comets out of the end zone. Halifax eventually broke through early in the fourth quarter to make it 24-21, but they got no closer. The Eagles used a last-minute interception from Anthony Brawner, his second of the game, to seal their third straight win!
