It was a heartbreaking end to a tough football season Saturday for the GW Eagles.  They lost their second straight overtime game, dropping a 27-26 decision to Magna Vista.  The loss also dropped the Eagles from playoff contention.

The Eagles took an early 8-0 lead on a ten-yard scoring run from junior Elijah Bridges. But the Warriors clawed back to within a point two minutes later.  Bridges scored again with five-and-a-half minutes left in the first half to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead at the break.

Magna Vista stormed out of the gate in the second half.  Quarterback Simeon Moore scored from two yards out after a long run put the Warriors at the two. The extra point tied the game at 14-14.  The Warriors took the lead in the fourth when tailback J.J. Spriggs broke a run for a 65-yard touchdown.  The Eagles blocked the extra point, but Magna Vista led 20-14. 

GW put together a gutsy four-quarter drive to tie the game to force overtime.  They made two fourth-down conversions before Nehemiah Cabell found Ishaun Myers for an 11-yard touchdown pass to tie the game with a minute left.  But G.W.’s extra point attempt was blocked.  The Warriors couldn’t score and the game went to overtime.

Magna Vista scored on their first overtime possession on a one-yard, fourth down run.  Their extra point was good and the Warriors led 27-20.  The Eagles quickly answered.  Cabell found Myers again from ten yards out to make it 27-26.

After having difficulties on their previous extra point attempt, the Eagles opted to go for two points and the win.  Cabell was pressured quickly as he rolled out to the right.  His pass toward the end zone was picked off, ending the game.
