2023 Week 4

It wasn't a work of art, but it was a win. And the G.W. Eagles will take it. They went on the road and knocked off the Staunton River Golden Eagles 28-14 to pick up their first win of the 2023 season.

The Eagles relied on a strong ground game to open scoring late in the first quarter. In the second, Darrell Mabin added his second touchdown to put the Eagles up 14-0.

Staunton River scored to get to within seven. But the Eagles used a little trickery to get on the board just before half, taking a 21-7 lead into the break.

The second half was back-and-forth with plenty of penalities for both teams. Eli Bridges scored to put the Eagles up 28-7 early in the fourth, but Staunton River answered a minute later to get to within 14.

Staunton River inched near the goal line with a minute left, but Tony Matos picked off a pass to seal the win!
