Oct. 13, 2023 --- G.W. 35 Bassett 7

Two in a row!

The G.W. Eagles gained a measure of revenge for a gut-wrenching loss a year ago.  They rose a strong defense and a second-half surge to a 35-7 home win over the Bassett Bengals.

In 2022, the Bengals crushed the Eagles' playoff hopes with a 50-43 overtime win.  They came back from a three touchdown deficit with five minutes left to force overtime.

The Eagles defense made a difference early on.  They forced a Bassett punt deep in their own territory.  Eli Bridges turned the punt into a touchdown to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

The Eagles added another touchdown late in te first quarter, but the Bengals scored immediately on a 70-yard pass play to make a 15-7 Eagle lead.  That was the halftime score.

In the second half both defenses took over, forcing four consecutive punts.  The Eagles scored on the last play of the third quarter to stretch their lead to 22-7.

The fourth quarter belonged to Jaden Glenn.  The junior tailback, pressed into service by an injury to Darrel Mabin scored twice...his second touchdown on a spectacular 56-yard run to cap the scoring.
