Grinding
it out!
In
a game whose kickoff was delayed by more than an hour because of
lightning, the G.W. Eagles came out flat on the road against their
long-time arch-rivals from E.C. Glass. After a hiccup on the
Hilltoppers' first drive, the Eagles defense played lights out the rest
of the way. The Eagles relied on a steady running game to grind out a
20-7 win over Glass, giving them four straight wins in the rivalry.
The Eagles dropped a snap on fourth down on their opening set of downs,
giving Glass the ball at the GW 30-yard line. The Hilltoppers scored in
five plays to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Eagles didn't score until midway through the second quarter. A bad
snap on an extra point attempt meant Glass took a 7-6 into the break.
The Eagles finally put together an impressive drive midway through the third. They capped it on a fine run by Stanford Lipscomb.
In the fourth quarter, Lipscomb scored his third touchdown with three minutes left to give the Eagles a hard-fought win.
